Según el informe presentado recientemente por el Grupo de Política de Salud Mental del Centro de Actuaciones Económicas de la Escuela de Economía de Londres (The Centre for Economic Performance’s Mental Health Policy Group, London School of Economics), la terapia psicológica debería ofertarse a todas las personas que presentan depresión y ansiedad, dado que es efectiva y preferible frente a la prescripción de medicación. Según se explica en el informe, a corto plazo, la terapia psicológica es tan eficaz como la medicación, y ambas son preferibles al no tratamiento; sin embargo, a largo plazo, es la terapia psicológica la que muestra efectos más duraderos.
